Zahid Hossain

Mr. Md. Zahid Hossain is working as the Human Rights Officer to the United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC), Bangladesh with a dual responsibility of the National Human Rights Officer of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Geneva, Switzerland. Previously, he worked as the Human Rights Expert at UNDP, Bangladesh for 5 years. Prior to joining the UN agencies, he was the Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Shipping of the Government of Bangladesh (GOB) for 12 years where he was responsible for ensuring maritime safety and environmental protection in inland waterways all over the country.

Mr. Hossain has a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws from Bangladesh, a Master of Science from Sweden. He also had pursued the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship (HHH) from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. He is experienced in policy making and program implementation in the arena of maritime natural resource management and human rights. His major of the HHH was Natural Resources and Environmental Management; of the MSc was Maritime Administration and Environmental Protection; and of LL.M. was Human Rights and International Laws. He taught different courses including Human Rights and Law of the Seas at different universities in Bangladesh.
